The Perfect Creative Outlet for the Busy Holiday Season

Catherine Canvo Bullet Journaling

Holiday concerts, dance recitals, get-togethers with friends, gift buying, and work keep me so busy during the holiday season. I know you can relate!

Time to get creative can be such a blessing and grabbing my Canvo Bullet Journal and stamping out some colorful pages is such a good way to help me feel revived.

Creating a monthly cover page is so much fun. For December, just grab a favorite image set from your holiday stamp stash. Here Hanna used the Wonderful Time of the Year stamp set and stamped out some ornaments in bright and cheerful colors. She then hand lettered in a December and drew the strings in with a ruler- and her page is done and decorated!

Here is another easy option for a header page. This one used the ‘Tis the Season Stamp Set and an assortment of Spa ink colors in various greens to create a wreath. It is simple to achieve this effect and so gratifying to see the finished result.

Pull out the Calendar and Boxes Stencil and you will find a small grid that lines up on the pages of your Canvo to give you a quick template to create a mini month-at-a-glance. Stamping the 'tis the season sentiment added a cute little detail to this simple page.

Once you start creating your artsy mojo usually kicks off! I find making a couple of simple pages really feels good. Helps me clear my head all while getting me geared up to get more organized. I call that a win win!

The Full Calendar Stencil, one snowflake stamp and two ink colors….how cute is this December Calendar Page? You could totally do this same spread for January. I think it would be cute for any winter month.

One more simple idea for a weekly spread…the embellished tree stamp in the Festive Trimmings Stamp Set really added a lot of interest to this weekly spread. Stamping in the days of the week with a little stamped accent made this page quick and easy yet really cute!

I hope this post inspires you to make a little you down time and get creative in your Canvo! The result will be a win win for you too!!

4 Ways to Use Sunflower Stamps Video Tutorial

Catherine CP Designs, CPD Ink, Floral, Shaker Card, Videos

For the past 4 weeks, I've premiered a new video tutorial on my channel on Sunday night at 8 PM Eastern. A premiere let's us watch a new video tutorial for the first time together and talk, ask questions and hang out together in the chat box.

I have been SO enjoying these Sunday nights together! Sometimes life gets crazy and out of control, things get in the way and I can't stick to a schedule. I'm going to try really hard to continue this because I've had an absolute blast with it! Will you join me next Sunday night?

This week's video was using the Shine On Sunflowers Stamps in four different ways.

The Shine On Sunflowers Stamp Set is a layering set to create two large sunflower blossoms. Simply stamp them on cardstock and create a card, or try one of the fun ideas in this video tutorial!

Let's take a look at each of these.

A sunflower shaker? YES, Please!!! I {heart} this shaker so much!

It was pretty easy to make…basically you're making a sandwich.

Create a frame with a stamped flower with circle die cut out of the center, adhere acetate cut from the flower die to the sunflower frame. Add dimensional adhesive, add sequins, adhere the large flower shape and BAM! You have a shaker sunflower!

I could make 50 of these and probably giggle and laugh just as much as the first time because I think it's oh, so cute!

This sunflower is stamped in Shea Butter Ink, the center is Icing on the Cake stamped twice, then the seeds stamped Midnight Ink with Clear Embossing Powder over it.

You can also use the Midnight ink without adding embossing powder. Or, try an Embossing Ink and pour gold, copper, or another color of embossing powder for a shiny finish.

You can stamp all three layers on the same piece of cardstock, or stamp and die cut the center to add dimension. Glue the center straight on the flower or pop it up with dimensional adhesive for more fun.

The background was created by swiping Skylight and Seafoam Ink on Watercolor Paper, then spritzing with water. Let it dry and add cover plate die cut over the top. Adorn with flower and greeting.

Use a rainbow of colors with the circle stamp and stamp three times to get three different shades of each color.

Die cut the Skyscape Mini Cover Plate with the largest rectangle die inside to create a frame. Cut a scallop border layer piece from acetate and adhere pieces together. Add dimensional adhesive to the perimeter, add sequins, add shaker frame and a die cut sentiment. Then shake, shake, shake!

Which is your favorite? Leave me a comment, I'd love to know!

Using Stamps for Backgrounds and Main Images

Catherine General

I had so much fun making this card with our StampNation Members last week! Here's one of the cards I made with them. It was pretty quick and easy to do!

Stamp the cacti and planter randomly on the background and add a cute Rockin' Red flower on a card layer, add to a card base. Then emboss the “Miss You” sentiment with Clear Embossing Powder several times, sprinkle on a bit of glitter while the embossing powder is still warm and wet for some sparkle!

Here's another card using main image stamps for a background! How fun is this by Karen Baker?

She used stamps from the Mountain of Thanks and the Dream Big Sentiment Stamp Sets to create the two different backgrounds and the Wanna Hug Stamp Set and Dies for the centerpiece.

Since our collections are carefully curated around a theme, you can easily mix and match stamps and sentiments from different stamp sets in the same collection!

One last card using the cactus as a main focal point of the card. How cute is this with lights added to it for an instant Christmas Card? Add the Miss You and it's an extra special card for friends and family you won't be with at the holidays.

Hope you enjoyed this inspiration today using stamps from the Out West Collection!

Out West Collection: Dream Big Bundle Reveal

Catherine General

Today we shared our final bundle in the upcoming Out West Collection, the Dream Big Bundle. This one is packed with inspiring and encouraging sentiments like the hand lettered sentiments in the Dream Big Stamp Set.

This bundle got it's start around the Mountains of Thanks Stamp Set. If you've hung around here long enough, you know I'm a sucker for pattern!

Fun, geometric patterns on mountains? Yes, please! I love these stamps and the fun theme of overcoming struggles and adventure that they evoke.

With the dies for the mountains, trees and clouds, there are so many fun scenes you could build with these or just add a pop on a patterned background.

Speaking of patterns, the Aztec Border Die is such a fun element for your card front! It cuts the pattern out to add a great detail. If you are adventurous, you may even want to try a bit of an inlaid die cut technique with this one!

To finish it all off, we have the Explore and Dream Big word dies. They work perfectly with all the sentiment stamps and are in modern block style fonts. Don't you just love how it all fits together?

You are going to reach the peak of card making greatness with the goodies in the Dream Big Bundle!

Available in the shop December 11th!!

StampNation Members will enjoy early ordering on December 10 when the products magically pop in their shop accounts at Noon Eastern! Join us here.

3 Cards Using 1 Set of Supplies: Wanna Hug Bundle

Catherine CP Designs, CPD Ink, Videos

The Wanna Hug Bundle has two fantastic image sets – Wanna Hug and My Kind Floral – along with the coordinating dies, the Canyon Mini Cover Plate, the Desert Diamonds Background Stamp, Sante Fe Sequins and Prickly Patterned Paper.

The patterned paper creates a ready made color palette for your hand made cards using the products from this collection: Polished, Sauna, Green Tea, Seafoam, Skylight, Juniper, Sugared Lavender.

The first card uses the Canyon Mini Cover Plate as a backdrop for the aloe mini a pot and the sentiment. The patterned paper strip (3-3/4 x 1-1/4″) is layered on a 5-1/4 x 4″ white card layer and adhered to a white card base.

I love the stripe patterned paper layer with the flowers in the next card. I pulled the color palette straight from the paper pack, stamped a bunch of flowers and played with layering options until I was satisfied. I even went back after I originally thought I was done and added more!

I love the extra element of a couple flowers and sequins being tucked behind the card layer.

The final card is my favorite. I stamped the background stamp in Twilight ink on scratch paper first, then on my card layer. This gave me a really light grey image that looks fantastic with the images and the colors in the flowers and the cactus and planter.

These products are part of our Out West Collection and will hit the shop on Wednesday, December 11 at 9 AM Eastern.

TOMORROW – join us at NOON Eastern on Facebook Live for the final bundle reveal.

Our Brand Ambassador team used the various elements of the two-step stamps in such a creative variety- you are only limited by your own imagination.

Can we take a moment to talk about the Sketch Plaid Background Stamp?!?! This one is a winner and you are going to love what it adds to your card front. Look how gorgeous it is just simple inked up with two colors…just wait until you emboss it!

Can't Wait!

Out West Collection: Wanna Hug Bundle Reveal

Catherine General

Today, we shared the first products in the Wanna Hug Bundle from our upcoming Out West Collection. The adorable cactus images in the Wanna Hug? Stamp Set are repeated in the Prickly Patterned Paper and the heart of this Collection.

The My Kind Flowers Stamp Set was designed to coordinate perfectly with it's Wanna Hug? sister set and is my kinda stamp set! Darling little flowers to stamp and layer along with a few fun sentiments and border elements. I call that perfection!

No Southwest inspired collection would be complete without a beautiful traditional Navajo inspired pattern like the one in the Dessert Diamonds Background Stamp.

The patterns and images play so nicely together and we thought would look perfect in a spa color palette of blues and greens. This was the inspiration behind the Santa Fe Sequin Mix- and you will love the pop of printed “Polished” sequins in there to mirror the textures and terra cotta found in southwestern decor.

As always, our stamp sets have coordinating dies to give you versatility in layering up your card fronts and providing a fun way to nest your plants in their little decorated pots!

Don't forget the Canyon Mini Coverplate which is also in this amazing Wanna Hug Bundle. The design reminded us of layers of earth and stone like the Grand Canyon and it can be used so many ways. I loved the inlaid effect on this card and the simplicity of the white on white.

I created this fun shaker on Facebook Live yesterday with the Canyon Mini Cover Plate, the Miss You Word Die and the Skyscapes Mini Cover Plate (I'll share them tomorrow!) – I love the textures!

You are going to have so much fun with the Wanna Hug Bundle stamps and dies. Buy them all for a great bundle price or mix and match your favorite pieces. I can't wait to share more of the Collection with you over the next few days!

Introducing the Out West Collection

Catherine General

Hello my friends! The new product release festivities have begun! We announced the theme of our next collection of card making products today on Facebook LiveOut West!

This past year several of us were lucky enough to travel “Out West” to parts of our country quite different than our beloved North Carolina.

Fluffy clouds, mountainous terrain, cacti taller than we stand and the wonder of the Grand Canyon captivated our explorer hearts.   Those elements of nature teamed with the native influences in pattern and architecture were the inspiration behind the Out West Collection.

From the Prickly Patterned Paper to the Santa Fe Sequins, this collection is full of Southwestern flair and coordination between products is a snap because everything was made to coordinate together!

The products in the Out West Collection will be in the shop on December 11 and ordering is easy!  Products can be purchased individually, or enjoy discounted pricing when you choose one of our bundles or the “I Want It All” Bundle.

Several products were sneaked during our Facebook Live and the first full bundle reveal will be on Thursday, December 5 at NOON Eastern on Facebook. I hope you'll join us!

Let's take a look at the first product sneaks!

Color Coordination is made easy with the Prickly Patterned paper!! Goes great with: Polished, Sauna, Green Tea, Seafoam, Skylight, Juniper, Sugared Lavender.

You'll get three sheets of each of the eight different designs containing flowers, cacti, southwestern patterns and geometrics.

If you know me, you know I'm obsessed with word dies. This brand new, hand lettered, funky “miss you” die coordinates perfectly with the other elements in this collection and I know you're going to make fabulous hand stamped cards for loved ones that are far away!

The Skyscape Mini Cover Plate contains 3 different shapes in graduated sizes for creating lots of great layers on your cards, tags and scrapbook pages.

The Canyon Mini Cover Plate layers perfectly over the largest layer in the Skyscape Mini Cover Plate and adds even more textural elements for your card making projects!

The three bundles of products that make up the Out West Collection will be revealed on Facebook Live at Noon Eastern on:

  • Thursday, December 5
  • Friday, December 6

Stencil Techniques on 4 cards

Catherine General

Stencils are an inexpensive and fun product to add to your toolbox. 6 x 6 stencils usually run around $7 and there are so many things you can do with them! Let's experiment with four different ways in this video tutorial.

Leave me a comment and let me know which technique is your favorite and which final card project you like the best!

Stencils can be used as stamps. Ink the stencil with an ink pad, spray on some water and press your stencil on watercolor cardstock!

Leave it as is, or sponge more ink over the top. Or, let dry, then ink blend more color over the stencil. You can try the same color or a coordinating or contrasting color. You can even add embossing ink over the stencil, remove, then pour embossing powder over the stenciled image and heat.

There's a lot of fun to be had with this technique!

Before you wash the stencil from the previous technique, press it to another piece of watercolor cardstock. Let dry and use on your next card or add Nuvo Glacier Paste or Mousse over the stencil for shimmer and texture!

A stencil like the Scattered Circles Stencil can be stenciled in different colors over the same background. Try various ink colors and don't be afraid to add some mediums! Here, I added Nuvo Glacier Paste for a bold shine.

The sentiment and these darling snowmen make such a festive card! This card would look so cute with blue and silver, too. Or, rather than using the snowmen, try the cups from the Baby It's Cold Outside Stamp Set.

The final card has a whole lot of elegance to it! Nuvo Embellishment Mousse with Glass Slipper Glitter sprinkled on create a gorgeous backdrop for the Mini Merry Coverplate frame and the Boughs and Berries Stamp Set.

Which technique will you try first?

All products are linked below so you can pop over to the shop and check them out! Thank you for visiting today!
