5 Ways to Use Cover Plates

Catherine CP Designs, CPD Ink, Die Cutting, Videos

Have you fallen in love with the versatile cover plate yet? I am pretty smitten with these background making bad boys and thought it would be fun to look at all of the things you can do with them! So here are 7 Ways to Use Cover Plates. Ready? GO!

1. The first and most basic way to use a Cover Plate is to just cut it out from white cardstock and layer it- white on white, to your card base. On this one, Daniel used the Wall Flower Cover Plate on the bottom half of his card to add interest without being too busy.

This card uses the Retro Star Coverplate and creates such great texture. A simple swag of flowers (image from the February Club Sursee subscription – ships out after the 15th!) and a sentiment is all you need for a gorgeous card.

This simple method is always a winner and brings another layer of texture to your card. It can stand alone or just become a patterned background layer to showcase a focal point on your card.

2. The next idea is layering more than one cover plate off-set from one another. With this technique, you can use more than one color to create more interest or just layer a grey or black behind your top layer, to give the feel of a shadow. This makes your layers pop and creates more dimension to your card.

3. How about using your cover plate as a stencil? By cutting out the Cover Plate and laying it over your card base or layer, you can blend color over the image and create a cool pattern on your card. You can do a part of the card like this one shown above (get clean edges by masking) or do the whole card base.

4. This technique can be a real show stopper! Try inlaid die cutting with your cover plate! There is so much possibility with an inlay technique. You can do the whole image or just pop in certain pieces. You can cut it out twice in different colored stock like this black and white card, or using direct to paper on each individual piece as you lay them back in.

Depending on the complexity, this technique can be all you want- just add your sentiment and you are done!

5. Have you ever just colored your cover plate? Using ink blending tools or watercolor, you can add color to the cover plate design in an abstract or intentional way. Lisa created a climbing wall flower by blending color directly to the Wall Flower Cover Plate's blooms and leaves.

I hope you are inspired to try something new with these 5 Ways to Use Cover Plates. What other ways do you know to use them? I have more ideas to share, so we'll get on live later in the month with more ideas. Thanks for visiting!

3 Cards with So Happy Stamp Set

Catherine CP Designs, CPD Ink

Today I'm sharing three cards from a recent Facebook Live Stream! If you haven't joined our live streams yet, we have so much fun, I hope you'll check it out. We usually go live around Noon Eastern and if you head over to the page, follow us and turn notifications ON, you'll get a notification when we go live. Sometimes we schedule them, sometimes we just hop on! Hope to see you there!

I created these two cards with the Gallon, Pint, Quart theory (which we think is a card maker thing)…have you ever heard of it? Basically, you choose three colors, use the most of one color, use a lot less of the second color and use the third color as an accent.

The two cards above were created with that in mind. What do you think?

I used a lot of products from our new In the Kitchen release. All products are linked below…along with the Checkerboard Stencil and the Wonky Triangle Stencil.

I hope you'll try this color combination – Fiesta Blue, Mint to Be and Pixie Dust!

Thanks for visiting!

Habit Tracker for Bullet Journaling

Catherine Canvo Bullet Journaling

Our Club Canvo subscribers received the bonus Habit Tracker Stamp Set in their shipment in December and that stamp set, which is a must-have for bullet journals, is now in our shop! Here's a look at how you could utilize the stamp set to keep track of all of your daily and weekly habits.

This spread was created using the Habit Tracker Stamp Set and the On My List Stencil. The tiny circles, squares and hearts from the stencil were used to create slots where you can then color in using a blender pen.

If you are not a Club Canvo subscriber, don't worry, you can still buy the Habit Tracker Stamp Set on our shop! Links can be found at the bottom of this post.

Each of our monthly Club Canvo products include a stamp that is perfect for tracking habits. Stamp the words for the type of habit you are tracking, then each successful day, color in a section!

January's stamp set has a darling fox with a scarf with 7 sections to color in. February's set has a 7 tiered cake. We can't wait to share March's set with you!

New Cards with In the Kitchen

Catherine CP Designs

I was feelin' all sorts of pink and love and valentine-y yesterday afternoon when we popped on Facebook Live and used some of the new goodies from the In the Kitchen Release to create a Valentine's Day Card!

Unfortunately, the live stream didn't record, but I wanted to share the project with you any ways. I used the Mini to Be Stripe from the Sum-Sum-Summertime Patterned Paper Pack as a background for this cute Hello There Hot Stuff Card. I stamped the phone and sentiments and mounted them on the Picture Frame Die layered over the Stitched Rectangle Die.

These three cards I created with StampNation on a Live Stream before the release. They are all Clean and Simple Cards with a fun color palette. Two with the fabulous Kitchen Aid Mixer and one with positive die cuts from the Lava Lamp Cover Plate.

Thanks for visiting today! We'll be live again on Facebook at Noon, hope you join us.

All new products are in the shop and can be found using the links below. Enjoy!

  • So Happy Sentiments Stamps & Dies
  • Happy x Three Dies

You are going to fall in love with the Happy x Three Dies. This set of layering Happy's can mix and match in several ways and the font…well it's just plain happy!

The Lava Lamp Cover Plate is next on the line-up. After it was designed, I thought it reminded me of a lava lamp so we knew it would work perfectly in this 1970's inspired collection! The funky pattern is a card front show stopper and just wait until you see it inlaid!!

We didn't want to give you floral images without some dies so we also added the So Happy Flower Dies. Coordinating dies are a must for many of us and they round out the bundle nicely for cards that will just leave you feeling happy!

6 Cards with the “In the Kitchen” Collection

Catherine CP Designs

The Veggies, Please Stamp Set is made up of the funkiest, cutest little veggies and I've been die cutting and stamping them like they are going out of style! In this YouTube video, I'll created 6 cards using the veggie images in different ways.

Which card is your favorite?

Stamp the pots in a rainbow of color, then add the different leaf toppers for an adorable herb garden! Use the Lava Lamp Cover Plate as a subtle white-on-white detail on the bottom.

Stamp a whole background with the veggies and add a frame created with the Picture Frame Die. Top it off with a sentiment strip from the Magnetic Messages for a fun rainbow veggie card!

I love the layering on this card! The Stitched Square Dies were perfect for a strip of patterned paper, a sentiment and a few layered funky veggies!

A layer of a simple geometric patterned paper with a layer of white cardstock is the perfect start of a Clean and Simple Card. Add a sentiment and a pea pod die cut and you're done! You can try this design with all the patterns in the pack and try different veggies for different looks!

You are simply radishing! This punny sentiment makes me giggle. The Picture Frame Die with the layering Stitched Square Dies are perfect for this sentiment and a die cut radish. Add it to a card base with some stamped radishes and patterned paper for a fun card.

All these products are part of our In the Kitchen Release and will be in the shop on January 29!

Introducing: Call Me Bundle

Catherine CP Designs

Funky, geo textures and patterns paired with a retro rotary phone? If the sound of that makes you so happy you want to phone a friend and share the news, you are going to love the Call Me Bundle.

View the video to see all the products in this bundle, some fabulous Ambassador projects and to see the stamps in action!

I love how the phone is five separate pieces – plus the speech bubble!! – so you can arranged the pieces in many different ways!

The Call Me! Bundle includes:

  • Call Me Stamps & Dies
  • GeoCurves Stamp Set
  • Loop Braid Stencil
  • Love You Word Die

We had an orange rotary phone (pretty close to Mandarin Spice!) hanging on the wall in the kitchen. Oh, the hours I spent on that phone with the long cord wrapped around and stretched as far as it could go…

The first set in this bundle is the oh-so-fitting Call Me Stamp Set. Even for those who never had the pleasure of using a rotary phone, we think you will love stamping this retro fav. With sentiments that remind our loved ones to stay in touch, this set will be great for any occasion.

Well hello, there cutie! Using the Call Me Dies, you can piece and layer the phone for added emphasis. Using vellum is perfect for the plastic dial face and allows the numbers to peek through!

The Geo Curves Background Builder is right up my crafty ally! This stamp set was designed to stack and layer and build your own multi-colored borders and backgrounds.

If you love builder stamps you are going to love this one! You will be able to spend hours of crafty time mixing pieces and color schemes creating backgrounds to your heart's content!

I just called to say…love you!

The Love You Word Die is next up in this bundle. This simple hand-scripted die will be the perfect touch to your cards. Use it as one flowing piece or cut it apart to use stacked or as individual word elements. This one's a keeper!

The final piece to round out the Call Me Bundle is the Loop Braid Stencil. I used this during the theme reveal on Facebook Live to create a CAS card and created lots of color variance with blending and building with one color ink. You could add so much texture with this stencil and a fun paper crafting medium.

Please join me on Sunday evening at 8 PM Eastern for my YouTube Premiere. We'll make SIX cards with some of the products hitting the shop on January 29th.

I'll see you on Monday as well with the final bundle reveal! Head over to YouTube to subscribe and click the bell to turn on notifications so you know when we add new videos. See you then!

Introducing: Lick the Bowl Bundle

Catherine CP Designs, CPD Ink, Valentine's Day

Today we are so exited to share the next bundle reveal from our In the Kitchen Collection: Lick the Bowl!

View the video to see the products, a bunch of fabulous projects by our Creative Ambassadors and see these products in action.

These products will be in the shop on January 29 and will be available for purchase individually or as a bundle (at a discount!).

The star of this bundle is the Lick the Bowl Stamp Set. This set is full of kitchen essentials from the rolling pin to the wire whisk and the iconic Kitchen Aid Mixer. The patterns on the bowls and oven mitt give that nod back to vintage Pyrex patterns and look great with the Potluck Patterned Papers.

There is so much versatility with these image stamps from building a kitchen scene to just a cute bowl pop on the card. You can try our throwback color scheme or just go bright and cheery- the possibilities are only limited by your imagination!

The coordinating Lick the Bowl Die set will give you lots of options for layering. How cute are the little egg and egg cup?

Meet the Potluck Border Stamp Set! Pulling from the patterns straight from the bowls and oven mitt in the Lick the Bowl Stamp Set, this set of 4 borders will give you endless border and background stamping options. I love adding this type of texture to my card base and inking them up in a variety of ways.

The Whipped This Up Sentiment Set is too cute for words! Designed with fonts that are a perfect match for this style, this set has some pun-style sentiments that will tie in great with the images in the Lick the Bowl Set.

The #IMADETHIS stamp will be so cute on the back of all your cards! These sentiments will be absolute perfection for upcoming Valentine's Day cards, too!

We also added in the Whipped This Up Die set to cut out the flowers and frames from the sentiment set. This cute little frame is just the right size for a shaker element on the card- just add a sprinkle of Des Moines sequins!

Finally, we have the Wall Flowers Cover Plate. This is an ode to the textural wallpaper from back-in-the-day! You can layer this on the card base white on white to add a little extra detail or ink blend it up for a show stopper floral layer. Maybe the whole piece could be embossed?? Now I've got my wheels turning!

The Lick the Bowl bundle is nostalgia filled and will have you whipping up cards all day long!

Check back tomorrow as we share the next bundle reveal. Can you guess what we might be cooking up next?

StampNation Members! You get to order early! January 28 at Noon Eastern, all the new products will magically show up in your shop account. Introducing: Kitchen Staples and Veggies, Please Bundles

Catherine General

I am so excited to share the first bundles in our upcoming In The Kitchen Collection; Veggies, Please and our Kitchen Staples Bundle.

Here is a video run down of all the new products, a bunch of great cards from our Brand Ambassadors and stamping with these new goodies.

The Kitchen Staples Bundle includes accessories and essentials that work perfectly with every other Bundle in the “In the Kitchen” Collection and is a must have for creating gorgeous cards and having lots of versatility for your designs.

The Kitchen Staples Bundle Includes:

  • Potluck Party Patterned Paper
  • Des Moines Sequin Mix
  • Stitched Squares Dies
  • Picture Frame Dies

These products can be purchased individually or as a bundle at a discount.

When we put together the Potluck Party Paper, we really wanted to mimic the feel of kitchen floors, wallpaper and curtains from the 1970's. We chose a color palette of Spa Inks that felt like the right throwback to time. Anyone else have memories of avocado appliances or orange vinyl flooring?

The color palette includes:

  • Rouge
  • Mandarin Spice
  • Sauna
  • Green Tea
  • Eucalyptus
  • Icing on the Cake
  • Over Coffee

If you ever struggle with color schemes, using the pattern paper as a jump off point will get you card making in no time.

The Picture Frame Dies are a set of nesting dies that cut out an adorable flourished square. Fit them together to cut frames or use them individually to create a layer to pop on your card.

The Stitched Squares Dies were created to layer perfectly with the Picture Frame Dies for tons of creating possibilities!

With our patterned paper, we think you need coordinating sequins so let us introduce Des Moines Sequin Mix!

This mix has sequins that go great with Sauna, Mandarin Spice and Green Tea with lots of pops of warm, metallic browns. And how about those Mandarin Spice little flowers?

The Veggies, Please Bundle includes fun and funky veggies, sentiment stamps mimicking refrigerator magnets as well as a stencil and background stamp to create cool textural backgrounds for your cards.

  • Veggies, Please Stamps & Dies
  • Rocks-Ann Background Stamp
  • Magnetic Messages Stamp Set
  • Off the Loom Stencil

The images in the Veggies, Please Stamp Set are a funky mod take on garden veggies. Carrot, Artichoke, Peas…all with a “bunch” of sentiments that are sure to brighten someone's day.

These cards by Kristie Goulet feature a bright color scheme of Party Colors with a graphic black and white pop. I love the pop of the Stitched Square die on the carrot card.

Next is the coordinating Veggies, Please Dies. Use them to cut and piece together your veggies and green tops- a nice way to add dimension to your creation.

My mom was big into macrame back in the 1970s and 80s…we had macrame pot holders, plant holders and even a glass table top that hung from a macrame “sling” from the ceiling. This stencil reminded me of that and so we call it Off the Loom! I think it works perfectly with the stamps in this bundle.

Next item in the bundle is the Rocks-Ann Background Stamp. This stamp was created to have sketchy, pebble look with a bit of a watercolor painted feel.

It reminds us of the beaded curtains that hung in doorways in the 1970s. Can you hear Sting singing in the background? Rocks-Ann!!

To finish it all off you need a great sentiment set! The Magnetic Messages Stamp Set inspiration came from the magnetic strips of words you can use on the refrigerator to create sentences and messages.

Stamp your sentiment and trim around it to add to a card, or stamp several on one card for more words of love and encouragement!

The Veggies, Please Bundle is a delightful mix of funky and 1970s inspired images and patterns.

Lava Lamps, Macrame and Rotary Phones…Introducing our Newest Collection: In the Kitchen

Catherine CP Designs

For many of us in the CP Clubhouse, there are many warm memories of moments spent in our mother's or grandmother's kitchen.  Standing on a stool near the warmth of the oven and watching our matriarch kneed love into home-made rolls.

The “In the Kitchen” Collection was designed to evoke all those warm memories and you will love creating with the products in this collection as much as we loved putting it together!

Classic prints and patterns from the 60's and 70's run through this collection and just begged to be matched with this funky color scheme….think avocado, gold and orange.

The products in this collection will also bring back memories of macrame, lava lamps and how 'bout that good ole rotary phone!?

All of our collections this year will include must-have elements like this cute sentiment set and cover plate dies for fabulous backgrounds. I adore the font on that “hot stuff” stamp!

Our patterned paper packs are created with coordinating colors from our ink line and are part of our Color Made Easy system…you don't have to think about it! Grab your paper, your sequins and your inks in coordinating colors and you are good to go!

February Canvo Bullet Journal Spreads

Catherine Canvo Bullet Journaling

Someone come and help me because I am SWOONING over the February Club Canvo! The Make Life Sweet Stamp Set is just that…sweet! and the GREAT news is that it's now in the shop available for purchase.

Get ready to use the seven-layer cake for a yummy little weekly tracker. Here's to hoping it doesn't interfere with your goal to reduce sugar!

I had so much fun doing this spread. The elements in the set are so versatile. You can use the pieces to build boxes on your page or hanging frames. You can also use the pieces separately like I did with the headers here.

This Rockin' Red, Be Mine and Icing on the Cake color scheme looks great with that pop of Tiara! I thought doing the month with the same color scheme would be fun and help tie my pages together beautifully.

MONTHLY WORD STAMPS! The newest addition to Club Sursee are the monthly word sets. Our illustrator, Leslie, hand-lettered these and with three to choose from, I can pick the perfect header for each page. She chose the fonts to coordinate beautifully with the month's theme.

How cute is the little detail of the hanging string? It's reminiscent of the specials board at some quaint little bakery.

For the days of the week, I pulled stamps from the Bullet Journal Basics Stamp Set. If you don't have that one yet, it is very handy and has great icons for appointments and special events!

If you haven't caught the bullet journal bug yet, you can jump on board at any time! Since you create your own from the blank pages of your Canvo, you don't have to start in January to make it work…and Club Canvo also has open enrollment year round! Each month's goodies ship out by the 5th of the month so you are always ready to get ahead of the game.

Learn all about it using the links below and jump on the Canvo Bullet Journal craze!
