Brayered Background Technique with Wandering Words Stamp Set

Catherine Projects, Techniques, Videos

wanderingwordslove

Hello Stamper Friends!  I wanted to showcase a few of Stampin' Up's Holiday  Mini Catalog stamp sets before they're not available anymore…get them through January 4!

If you look closely, or maybe not so closely, you will see that I should have taken my own advice!  I stamped the main image with Black Craft Ink, which takes a while to dry.  You can heat set it, pour clear or black embossing powder on it and heat it, or you can be patient.  I chose none of the above, thus a smeared card!  yikes!

I had fun working with Stampin' Up's glossy cardstock, my brayer and 2 different pink ink colors.  You'll see on the video, the first AND the second try didn't work out too well.  The third time was a charm!

I also finished it up with a ribbon and the new Jewelry Tag Punch and stamps from Tiny Tags Stamp Set, available in the Occasions Mini Catalog, premiering January 5.  Hint:  stamp the tag outline, then use your 1/16″ hole punch to make a hole, THEN punch it out with the tag punch.  It would be tough to put a tiny hole through the tag once it's already punched out!

Supplies:

  • 116507 Wandering Words Stamp Set $25.95
  • 102599 Glossy Cardstock $5.95/25 sheets
  • 101301 Pretty in Pink Ink Pad $5.95
  • 101778 Rose Red Ink Pad $5.95
  • 102544 Rose Red Cardstock $5.50/24 sheets
  • 102192 Basic Black Craft Ink Pad $7.50
  • 102851 Basic Black Cardstock $7.50/40 sheets
  • 102395 Brayer Handle with Rubber Attachment $12.50
  • 114319 White Organza Ribbon $5.95/15 yards
  • 109866 Silver Cord $4.95/25 yards
  • 107214 Stampin' Up Ticket Corner Punch $6.95

Items used available Jan. 5:

  • 117190 Medium Jewelry Tag Punch $10.95
  • Tiny Tags Stamp Set: wood mount – $22.95, clear mount – $16.95

Occasions Mini Catalog – Garden From the Heart Stamp Set with Curly Label Punch

Catherine Projects

butterflies

Hello Stamper Friends!  I talked to my mom yesterday and guess what…we really are fools!  She said we were wearing the snuggies backwards!  haha!  We thought she just had her own special way of making them…not quite covering the front, and a pocket on the back.  Oh, well, they were cute and warm!  Now we get it…pocket goes on the front and it buttons in the back, aaahhh…much better.

What do you think of this card?  It's a bit different style for me.  The hardest part of making this card was using my marker to color the stamp that says “…from my heart”.  That stamp actually says, “from my garden…from my heart” and has a bird on it.  I guess I could have left the bird on it and covered it up with the butterfly.  Oh, where is this stamp from?  It's from the new Garden from the Heart stamp set in the Occasions Mini Catalog, available January 5.

Supplies:

  • Garden From the Heart Stamp Set– 117004 $22.95 wood mount, 118568 $16.95 clear mount
  • 118138 Stampin' Up Beautiful Wings Embosslit Die $11.95 (avail. 1/5)
  • 117681 Pretty in Pink Corduroy Buttons $9.95 (avail. 1/5)
  • 112208 Curly Label Punch $15.95
  • 115320 Melon Mambo Cardstock
  • 115318 Soft Suede Cardstock
  • 115317 Bermuda Bay Cardstock
  • 105328 Sahara Sand Cardstock
  • 115319 Crushed Curry Cardstock

Tiny Tags Stamp Set, Welcome Neighbor Paper and Inspiration Video…oh, and a couple Christmas Gifts

Catherine Projects, Videos

030

Hello Stamper Friends!  I hope you had a wonderful Christmas!  I know we did…one of our highlights was the gifts my mother (the crafty-sewing one:) made for us.  She made matching vests, hats and mittens for the girls, matching aprons with pot holders for the girls and I and Snuggies for the girls…and Kenly!  Here is a very becoming photo (hehe, we were laughing at how U-G-L-Y we look!) of Randall and I modeling the Snuggies and hats.  Hope you like them and get a chuckle at us fools!

Today I got my inspiration from the demonstrator magazine, Stampin' Success!  I get asked all the time where I get my ideas.  ONE of the places I get my ideas is this magazine.  It's a great resource every month.  If you are considering becoming a demonstrator, I would love to answer any questions you might have, and January is a great time to sign up!  Whether you aspire to be a hobby demonstrator and enjoy your discount among other demonstrator perks, or bring in a couple hundred extra dollars a month for your family, Stampin' Up is for everyone!  Email me if you have questions.

During Sale-A-Bration, in addition to all the great stuff in  your starter kit, you will also get to choose ANY stamp set from the current catalog!  Full Details Here.

Ok…so back to my inspiration…here is my version of the layout from above.  I substituted stamps, paper, ribbon and inks.  I had not planned out the card before I filmed the video, other than my colors, so take a peek and see how it all came together!

I hope you are inspired by my video to get out your stamps and try this layout.  Leave a comment if you do and send me a photo!  I'd love to see what you come up with.

Supplies:

  • Tiny Tags Stamp Set 118091 ($22.95) for wood mount, 118592 ($16.95) for clear mount…available January 5
  • 117292 Old Olive Satin Ribbon (Avail. 1/5) $8.95 (15 yards)
  • 118401 Welcome Neighbor Designer Series Paper Pack (FREE with a $50 purchase, avail. 1/5)

My Digital Studio Christmas Card

Catherine Christmas

christmas-card-2009-0011

Merry Christmas Everyone!

I wanted to share our Christmas Card this year.  I took the girls to the mall and shot this photograph in front of Santa.  I did not use a flash for this photo and  I got just the look I was looking for!  Gosh, these sweeties are cute! 😉  I know…I'm biased.

By the next morning, I had uploaded this photo and made the card in My Digital Studio.  It was that fast.  And within a matter of days I had them printed off and ready to go with almost no work!

Since this is the time to take tons-o-photos, here are a few tips for you from  Ron Nichols, author of Picture-Taking for Moms and Dads, and How to Take Great Pet Pictures. Ron encourages families to make the most of the occasion by capturing some of that joy in photographs. Here are a few ways Ron suggests to turn average holiday photos into “visual treasures.”

  1. Chronicle your children’s holiday school projects on film. Thanksgiving and Christmas art projects made by the hands of our children are among the greatest gifts a parent will ever receive. Take the time to photograph your child with the project (use natural light if you can). It’s a great way to always remember that special gift.
  2. Add some holiday cheer with your pets. Pets are such an important part of our families, so why not feature them in your holiday photos, especially if they’re donned in holiday attire!
  3. While the entire family’s together, take a family portrait. It can sometimes be difficult to get the entire family together, so when you do, be sure to take the time to make a group photo. It’s likely to be a cherished keepsake.
  4. Have your camera ready. Christmas morning is an exciting time for everyone. Parents are likely to be rousted from their sleep fairly early. Be certain you have your camera loaded with fresh batteries and in a readily-accessible place, so you can capture the excitement.
  5. Get close. It’s the number one rule for better photos any time of year, and the same is true during the holidays. So whether your photographing spontaneous moments, or you’re taking the time to shoot a portrait, closer is almost always better.
  6. Give yourself the gift of making great photos all year long. Children will be grown and gone before you know it, so take the time to make beautiful pictures, whether it’s a holiday, a birthday or just a play day.

And a few tips from me:  Make sure to get pictures of YOURSELF!  These will be very important to your children.

And take photos of the tree withOUT a flash.  The lights will show up beautifully!

I know you're going to need to SCRAPBOOK these photos, so check out my Christmas Jingle Kit…only a few left!

My Mom’s Craft Room – Video Tour!

Catherine Videos

0021

Hello Stampers!  Today I wanted to let you visit my mom's craft room.

My mother has always been a seamstress and taught me at an early age.  In fact, I clearly remember sewing my first pair of pants at age 8.  They were light green, pretty close to Certainly Celery, I do believe!, with a tie around the waist.  The first time I wore them to school a boy pushed me down on the playground which resulted in huge grass stains on the knees.  I never wore them again….so sad!

But I did go on to sew countless items of clothing, pillows, curtains, bags, etc.  I thank my mother for bringing me up crafty!  I don't sew much now, but I'm so glad I know how, so I can if I need to.  And my “crafty background” led me to my current job…a Stampin' Up Demonstrator!

Now my mom is teaching my children how to sew.  I teach them to papercraft, and she teaches them to sew!  My oldest commented to me how lucky she is that she is being taught all types of craft.  How right she is and I'm so glad she notices.

003

Here is Eva at the sewing table.  The light green sewing machine is a Hello Kitty Sewing machine and we brought it home with us.  It's so cute!

0051

My mom has such a great space and I took a video so I could share it all with you.  Enjoy!

Online Cards and Projects Club, Blog Candy Winner and Merry Christmas Blog Candy!

Catherine Projects

Hi Everyone!  Thanks to you all that left comments.  I LOVED reading them and it makes me happy to know you are visiting my website and enjoying it!  Keep the comments coming!

The winner of the Notebook Blog Candy is Kathy!  I love her idea about featuring some of the sets my club members purchased that month (speaking of club, be sure to keep reading).

By Kathy on Dec 21, 2009 | Edit

I think the font you use is good – easy to read. I like the text under the picture. I love looking at your projects online. I like the simpler one’s because I can do them at home with the supplies I have. I also like the non-card projects that give me ideas of other things to do with my stamps. My favorites though are the ones that go with the stamps I have!!! Maybe you could put a sample or 2 from a set that someone buys each month at club.

Thanks for all the great ideas! Merry Christmas!

On to the next blog candy!    On Tuesday, I will draw one name to win a roll of So Saffron Grosgrain Ribbon.

Medallion Stamp Set Notecard Gift Set

Catherine Videos

Happy Thursday everyone!

Today I have a notecard gift set to share with you.  Every year I make sets of notecards for the teachers.  You can't go wrong with a gift like this.

This year, for Eva's preschool teachers, I decided to make a simple all-occasion set with Stampin' Up's Medallion Stamp Set.  For $17.95, this versatile stamp is the most popular stamp set in the Stampin' Up Catalog!

If you don't have the Medallion Stamp, other stamps that would work well in this layout are:

  • Fifth Avenue Floral
  • Flower Fancy
  • Simple Friendship
  • Fresh Cuts, Priceless
  • Baroque Motifs
  • I (Heart) Hearts from the Occasions Mini Catalog (coming out on January 5).

   annas-hearts1

While I was stamping mine, Anna, my 10 year old, made this card using the same layout, different colors and stamps, I (Heart) Hearts Stamp Set.  She also was showing her friend how to mount the Clear Mount Stamps!  8 years and I can sign her up.  I almost video'd her demonstrating the Clear Mount…she was cute!

medallion1

Back to the notecard gift set.

Tips: I find it easiest to stamp assembly line style.  Stamp the Medallion on ALL your white layers.  Then add adhesive on them all at the same time, etc.

This way, you're not picking up and putting down your adhesive a million times!

medallion2

Here is the finished package.  I used the Two Tags Big Shot Die to cut out the tag (don't miss out, it's on sale!).  Then I stamped the Medallion on it, added a half back pearl from the Pretties Kit (adhered with a mini glue dot), and stamped the greeting from Sweet Season on it as well.

I wrapped the notecards and envelopes (you can see the envies in the video) in tissue paper, tied my Bermuda Bay Polka Dot Ribbon around it and through the tag, and Viola!

Supplies:

  • 115223 Medallion Stamp SEt $17.95
  • 105328 Sahara Sand Cardstock $7.50 (40 sheets)
  • 105208 Sahara Sand Ink Pad $5.95
  • 115317 Bermuda Bay Cardstock $5.50 (24 sheets)
  • 115655 Bermuda Bay Ink Pad $5.95
  • 115610 Bermuda Bay Ribbon $9.95 (15 yards)
  • 102892 Sponge Daubers $10.95 (12)
