Happy Friday! Embossed Penny Black Card

Happy Friday my friends!  Today I've been hard at work after two days that had me out of the office a ton.  Between me and two of the girls, there were four doctor's appts. (nothing serious, just ear aches, chirpractor and cavity fillings).  Good grief!  I'm happy to be in my stamp room today.

While I was out and about, I told a friend of mine that I signed up for an art class in July.  I must have been on the edge of my seat telling her about it.  She looked at me with a funny look on her face and said, “You'd probably choose doing that over a day at the spa, wouldn't you?”.

I almost fell out of my chair laughing.  Well, DUH!  Yeah!  hahahaha!

What about you?  Art/paper crafting/mixed media class or Spa?

penny black newsletter2Today's card was made with another great Penny Black large scale stamp and stencil.  Just like the one I did in my newsletter this week.

If you didn't catch it, you can view that video tutorial and all three cards HERE on StampNation.

If you haven't subscribed to my newslettet yet, you will get weekly project inspiration that I share only with newsletter subscribers.

For this card, I used Tattered Angel's Glimmer Mist and a stencil to make the background.  Then, I used the Suncatcher stencil and sponged versamark over it.  Next, I covered it in black embossing powder and heated it.  This gave a neat shadow effect to the flower.

An Embossed background and a banner with a white embossed greeting finish off this card.

Supplies:

  • Special Wishes Stamp Set (Penny Black)
  • Cardstock:  Marina Mist, Whisper White, Basic Black (SU)
  • Ink:  Versamark
  • Accessories:  Tattered Angels Glimmer Mist, White Embossing Powder, Chevron Embossing Folder

Hope you are inspired!  Oh, before I go!  Did you see the news!!!??????

My mother-in-law moved into a retirement community in November.  When she moved in and Randall and I checked this place out, the first thing out of our mouths was “How old do you have to be to move in here?”

Seriously, this place rocks.

It's brand spankin' new, has amazing amenities (a restaurant, bar, cleaning service, indoor pool, I could go on), this place is so nice and fancy and reminded us of a cruise ship.  Mom!  We'll be moving in there with you just as soon as we can!  lol!

But that's not the point of this post…the point is to share this project with you!  Anna and I went there a few weeks ago over her spring break to stamp with some of the ladies.  I hadn't stamped with new stampers in a looooong time.

I forgot that they need the basics…how to ink your stamp without getting ink All. Over. The. PLACE!

How to apply adhesive.

How to stamp and not wiggle to avoid edges.

Cards For Him inspiration

We had a great time and hope to bring some fun stamping and card making to the ladies over there again soon.

Here is one of the cards we made.  I thought it was great for beginners and you know what?  It's a PERFECT KISS Card (Keep It Simple Stamper).

It's also super versatile.  I used this layout on a masculine card in our latest class, Cards For Him.

I hope you are inspired and look in your stash to see what stamps you have on hand that would look fabulous on this layout.

At the bottom, I used striped patterned paper.  Would you use patterned paper or would you stamp a graphic design there?  So many options!

Have you taken advantage of the early bird pricing?!

Supplies:

Mum's the Word Stamp Set (PTI)

Ink:  Primerose Petals, Early Espresso, Pear Pizzazz (SU)

Cards For Him Blog Hop - masculine cards

Here is the card that I made for the blog hop.

Simple.  Clean.  Graphic.  Great for a guy!

But great for many other people and occasions, right?

In this video I will show you how I made this card, simplified a bit, and how to make it four different ways!

I started out with the intent of making this a simple KISS Card video (Keep it simple stamper!) and got a bit carried away…watch…(viewing in your inbox?  click the title to view online).

Be sure to hop over to this video on Youtube to comment – I'll be sending all five of these cards to one person drawn at random!   KISS Cards Supplies:

  • Flower Friend Stamp Set (Simon Says Stamp)
  • Cardstock:  Whisper White
  • Ink:  Early Espresso, Daffodil Delight

KISS Cards How to:

  • Score two pieces of card stock at 5-1/2, then cut at 5-1/2. Fold these in half and you will then have four card bases.
  •  Cut one piece of card stock the long way at 4, then cut the remaining piece at 4.  Then cut both pieces at 5-1/2.  You will now have four pieces for your top layers.
  • Cut the 1/4 piece of card stock on an angle.
  • Use a pencil to trace the angle of the cut card stock.
  • Use that pencil line as a guide to stamp your images.
  • Figure out how much you need to cut off the top piece and cut.
  • Stamp your greeting and assemble with dimensionals.

KISS Cards Supplies:

  • Make a Statement Stamp Set (Some Odd Girl)
  • Cardstock:  Whisper White
  • Ink:  Yes Peas, Something Blue, Orange County (Studio Calico)

KISS Cards Supplies:

  • Stamp Set (Papertrey Ink)
  • Cardstock:  Whisper White
  • Ink:  Coastal Cabana, Basic Grey, Calypso Coral

KISS Cards Supplies:

  • Leaf and Flower Background Stamp (Hero Arts)
  •  Cardstock:  Whisper White
  •  Ink:  Peacock Feathers, Mowed Lawn (Distress Ink)
  • Accessories:  Sparkling Clear and Onyx Sequins (Pretty Pink Post)

Virginia Lu

I am Virginia Lu from Ontario ,Canada. I fell in love with stamping and card-making over 18 years ago. However, I only became active and passionate about my hobby in Fall 2008. I started my blog in Sept. 2009, I haven’t stopped making cards since! I love working with all kinds of stamps, pattern paper, inks, digital images, embellishments, stickers!

My favourite style is leaning toward Clean and Simple. I like to add a “wow” factor to my cards as it gives the receivers a lasting impression and a sense of delight and charm.

I have been lucky to have a few cards published in Paper Crafts and Scrapbooking, Papercrafts Inspirations (UK) and CARDS. I was one of the Top 5  in 2013 Gallery Idol. Currently I design for  CAS-ual Fridays Stamps.

I also host a new challenge blog called Virginia’s View Challenge. It’s an honor to be here at StampNation!

Belssings

I recently “met” Virginia online and we've become fast friends.  She blows me away with her incredible talent, eye for design and she is just so darned enthusiastic and kind.  I'm glad to know her and thrilled to have her joining us for May!

A small change…

Catherine Projects

My paper crafting business began over 10 years ago when I signed up to be a Stampin' Up demonstrator.  When I began, I ran it the “traditional” way…with classes and workshops and I loved it!  As my family grew and my life changed, I knew my business was going to have to change as well, and I moved my business online.

Over the past 6 years I have poured my heart and soul into building my online business.  I opened StampNation on Jan. 11, 2011.  As the site grows and thrives, it takes up most of my time and attention.  The members and the site are INclusive and love all products (including SU!) and love sharing paper crafting together.

Over the past year, I have worked with other company's products alongside Stampin' Up!  I am grateful that they have given me the freedom to do so!

At this point, it seems that doing just that has put me up against a choice.  I had to choose whether I was going to remain a demonstrator or resign and continue on the journey that I am well on my way into.

So my business changes again…In order to spread my wings and fly, the time has come to resign as a Stampin' Up! demonstrator.  I love Stampin' Up! for the amazing opportunities being a demonstrator has provided me with.  The company and people associated with SU! will always be important to me.

We all live and grow and make changes in our lives. They are not always easy, and they take time and courage to move forward with.   Since mine is right here for all of you to see, I hope you can understand and appreciate that this was not an easy decision.

With all of that being said, I am very excited about this new chapter in my life and hope you will come along on this amazing journey with me!

I'm not going anywhere…what you've been seeing on my blog and StampNation is exactly what you will continue to see.   And I will continue to love Stampin' Up and use their products, you can bet on it!

Thank YOU for being here – for viewing my videos, following me on Facebook, subscribing to my newsletter and those of you that are  StampNation Members?  You are my friends and I am grateful that you share this amazing hobby with me.

SU sneakIn honor of my decade of being a Stampin' Up! demonstrator, my project that will go up today on StampNation uses all SU products.

Here is a peek at it…I hope your day is amazing –

Thank you!
