Introducing Two NEW Spa Ink Colors

CatherineGeneral Leave a Comment

We've got NEW Inks!

Introducing Goldenrod and Verbena- the two newest colors in our Spa Ink Family.

Goldenrod is joining our yellow Spa Inks with Whipped Honey and Shea Butter. This will be the darkest shade in the Spa yellow column of the CP Color Wheel. This golden, mustard yellow will be a great addition to your color collection.

Say hey to Verbena!! This Spa violet is an absolutely gorgeous mid-tone and falls between Lilac and Royal Treatment on the CP Color Wheel. Verbena is going to fill in that “missing space” when Lilac is lighter than you want and Royal Treatment is just too dark. It's the color you've been missing!

Speaking of the CP Color Wheel…it's been updated for the final time in 2024! Click here to download and print out your updated Spa Wheel, Ink Checklist and Swatch Chart.

Adding Details to Stamped Images

CatherineGeneral Leave a Comment

One of our Design Team Members, Amanda, often adds additional hand-drawn details to her cards and I just love how it elevates the project. On this YouTube LIVE, I created a few cards showing ways to do this simple technique!

Using Copics, I added details and shading to these simple stamped flowers and leaves from the Best in the Patch Stamp Set. I used the Everyday Sentiments Digital Download (find this FREEBIE in our shop here!) as my base for this sweet card. A few extra dots here and there make it extra cute!

Again, using one of the printed Everyday Sentiments Download as my card layer, I embellished this card to the nines! I added texture to the palm tree and pattern to the popsicle cart from the On the Boardwalk Stamp Set. I also added some white gel pen details here for more contrast.

This project was a two-for! I made a rainbow stripe technique piece with Copic Markers and then using the Hey Hey Hey Sentiments Stamp Set and Dies, I was able to cut and stamp pieces from the background to create two cheerful cards!

To see the step-by-step how to, check out my YouTube Video here>>
I hope you are inspired by these projects! All the products I used are linked below if you'd like to check them out in the shop!

Updating Classic Father’s Day Card Ideas with the Wild About You Stamp Set

CatherineGeneral Leave a Comment

Creative Team Member Lisa Harrolle always creates beautiful projects with CP Designs products! I loved the cards she made with our Wild About You Stamp Set and thought they would be perfect inspiration for your dad's day card making. Since a few of the products she used have now retired, let's take a look at some ways to update these designs!

This card layout is just awesome! I love the ink blended bottom and the way she stamped the trees in two tones and using the second generation stamp technique to get the lighter trees in the background.

Lisa used the retired Buffalo Plaid Background Stamp and Wood Slice Die but you can easily duplicate this look even if you are missing these products in your crafty stash. Both Moose Crossing and Woodsy Patterned Paper Packs contain woodgrain prints! You can die cut them with a circle die, like the Double Duty Circle Dies, to create a dupe on this wood layer. Then choose a plaid or another pattern from the pack you used for the background circle layer. Easy swap!

I love the simple layout on this card. Layering die cut circles and adding a bit of twine make this card clean, which is a great masculine option.

The background plaid that Lisa used is retired, but we've got you covered with several other options! The Sketch Plaid or Cozy Plaid are great options for updating this card. For your sentiment, try the Something For Everyone or Rad Dad One Liners Stamp Sets. Want to add a bold Dad, Papa, or Daddio? Just grab the Block Alphabet Dies for a custom option.

These two cards would be nice for your hubby on Father's Day or any day just as they are. A simple sentiment swap will also do the trick. Use the same ideas above to update the deer card.

Lisa's wolf card is pure genius! Using black cardstock and her Wild About You Dies, she used a partial die cutting method to created the shadow trees bottom of the card and pop that up over her ink blended and water sprinkled night sky. This one is a stunner and will impress any recipient!

How to Choose Coordinating Colors: Paper * Ink * Markers

CatherineGeneral Leave a Comment

Did you know we focus on a Color Made Easy System at CP Designs? Color can be complicated so we work hard to think about ways to provide you will tricks, tips and tools to equip you in tackling the color conundrum!

We make things easy by working hard to color-match our printed paper to our inks! We list the coordinating inks with each pack so when you sit down to create with any pack, like this pack of Santa Monica Pier Patterned Paper, you can easily grab a beautiful ink color combo and start creating!

When coloring with Copic Markers, there is a trick to helping you find colors that will coordinate with our inks! I have several educational videos on this topic that you can find on our Youtube Channel. To make it easy, it's important to know that the first number for a Copic Marker color represents its saturation. Markers with a 0, 1 or 2 is a highly saturated color and will look great with our Party Ink Colors. A 7, 8 or 9 is a color with low saturation, and will look great with our Spa Ink Colors.

By grabbing our Color Wheel, you can take your Party or Spa Color you are working with, determine what color family it falls in- like Red, Orange, or Yellow-Green. Then use the letter and number system on the Copic Marker to find your best match.

Watch my YouTube Video for more detailed info on this…

Once you have these tricks, tips and tools in your crafty arsenal, you will be choosing coordinating colors like a pro! You'll feel confident while you create and proud of your finished projects! Why not grab a pack of CP Patterned Paper and use it as your jump off point for your next set of cards. We can't wait to see what you make!

Two For One with the Woodie Wagon

CatherineGeneral Leave a Comment

I am head over heels for our new Woodie Wagon Die! It is super fun to put together and when you load up the Boardwalk Cruisers- adventure follows!

I paired these products on Facebook LIVE with our Deepest Darkest Peru Cover Plate Die. The tropical theme was a perfect pairing! I used some light ink swiping on my die cut images and backgrounds to create an array of colors and texture.

I wanted to tuck the front half of the Woodie Wagon into the leaves…but couldn't waste the back end so I created two cards! Using the same techniques and stamp set, I was able to make two cards with this one large die cut piece! I think it's super cute!

I love how different Amanda's cards look in Party as well as Spa Colored Inks. One is sweet and subtle encouragement while the other is bringing joy and cheer. I can see grabbing these turtles and mixing in some birthday sentiments from my stash!

The Flower Forest Stamp Set and Dies were the other part of this mini bundle. These beautiful blossoms were made to be exaggerated paired with the critters but also look gorgeous used alone. Going Bananas for Backgrounds

CatherineGeneral Leave a Comment

Making backgrounds is one of my favorite parts of card making. There are so many ways you can create different textures and patterns for your background. These can take your clean and simple card designs and make them sensational!

Embossing Folder

Embossing folders are a great way to bring pattern AND texture to your project. The Jungle Impressions 3-D folder has a lush jungle and animal texture design. With various ink blending and swiping, you can get gorgeous results!

Layered Stencil

Layered stencils make you an instant artist! The It's a Jungle Out There Layered Stencil has four different stencils that layer together, giving you the option for multiple colors on your background. With our Detail Blending Brushes, you can add even more colors to the various flowers in the design.

In my last card, I grabbed the Stamp and Spin Tool to create a fun wreath of leaves with the Stay Wild Stamp Set. Here is a similar card showing this technique. Stamping circle patterns is not only beautiful but it's also so much fun!!

Cards That Pop! Just Add Strips

CatherineGeneral

What's On Trend is well underway and we have been learning so much with this free video series! Each week our maker experts have been sharing things they can't get enough of in their craft rooms. This week we had Carissa Wiley sharing her love of adding paper strips to her cards.

Carissa Wiley

In her video, Carissa showed various ways to integrate strips and different tools you could use. She started by using the Mod Strips Cover Plate to cut a variety of strips and using the direct-to-paper method, she inked them up in her colors. I love how she placed them at an angle to create a fantastic focal point.

The Angled Strips Cover Plate brings a whole new angle to this look! The bit of ink blending on this strip background is so beautiful! She also used some banner dies to bring in more colorful strips!

Check out Carissa's Video on YouTube!

In her last card, she created one long strip with an ombre ink blending technique. These strips she simply cut with her paper trimmer. All of these techniques and ideas really make her cards pop.

My video is up next! Be sure to join us on Sunday at 8pm Eastern or watch the replays at any time!
