Rose Garden with Ashlea: Faux Embroidery Hoop and Color Combos for Ink Layering

CatherineCP Designs, CPD Ink, Encouragement, Gallery, Projects

Hello crafty friends, it's Ashlea! I'm so excited to be on Catherine's blog again today sharing some beauty from the Kind of Batty release. This was actually the very first card I created with this release and I just knew with the bright fall-ish colors it was the one I wanted to share with you here.

When I received this set, the Tropically Yours SOA had just been released so those products were fresh on my mind. Once I saw the beautiful layered roses an embellished embroidery hoop popped in my mind (which is honestly a little weird because I've never embroidered once in my life. But i love them!).
Once I thought of that, I knew that the Canvas Background stamp would go perfectly as the material in the center of the hoop. After stamping that with Over Coffee ink, I used a circle die to cut it out and used two more slightly larger circle dies to cut out the “hoop” from a piece of card stock that I ink blended Icing On The Cake on to. To finish off the embroidery hoop element, I stamped the sentiment Believe In Yourself from the Rose Garden stamp set to the center as the embroidering.
Layering tiiime! Is this set just the MOST gorgeous thing ever?! Yes. It is. A major part of most layering stamps is getting the coloring just right when choosing inks for each layer. Here's what I used for each rose:
Orange Rose: (1) Limoncello (2) Tiara (3) Orange Twist (4) Tutti Frutti
Yellow Rose: (1) Limoncello (2) Tiara (3) Shea Butter (4) Tiki Torch
I love giving lots of definition and color transition between the 3rd and 4th layer to make sure those tiny details really shine through. I layered a few of the leaves that are included in the set using Garden Party, Lime Rickey, Grass Skirt and Eucalyptus. I then arranged them on the top right portion of the embroidery hoop and adhered the leaves with glue and the roses with foam tape.
For the background I cut a piece of generic yellow card stock and cut it to 4″ x 5 1/4″ and used the watercolor stroke stamp from the Eat Sleep Create stamp set to clear emboss strokes all the way down the piece. I love using clear embossing powder like this because it matches the color perfectly while being just a slight darker tone. It also adds interest with shine and texture.
After I added some ivory gems, I decided to use one more flower from the set in a pink/red color to add a little more depth and interest. For this flower I used (1) It's A Girl (2) Bellini (3) Polished and (4) Limoncello for the center. Finally, I adhered it all to an A2 size card base.
I hope that you've enjoyed learning a bit about how I created this card. I hope that you are LOVING the collection and I can not wait to see what you create. Thanks for stopping by today!
