This month we are highlighting long time member, Susan Powell. Susan (greetingbysusan) has added so much to our site over the past four years. She's super supportive and oh, so crafty!!!!
Tell us a little about yourself. What do you do for a living or when you aren’t getting inky? When I'm not getting inky or hanging out with my family, I work as an Education Assistant at one of our local elementary schools. I find it an extremely rewarding job and I love what I do – every day the kids make me smile and laugh.
How long have you been stamping? Do you have a story about how you started? I've been stamping for about 20 years. I was at a Gymboree event for my daughter (who's turning 22 in March) and someone had a display set up for a scrapbook company. I'd been scrapbooking since I was a kid but without all the fancy tools. After seeing that display, I was hooked! It was about 8 years ago now that I went to a Stampin' Up! party and made some cards – since that night my scrapbooking has taken a back seat to card making.
What is your stamping style? I would have to say that my style is CAS – now. It wasn't always though. All that white space used to stress me out but I always admired the CAS designer's cards. I was determined to conquer my fear of all that white space and now it's my go to style.
How long have you been a SN member and what is your favorite thing about the community? I joined SN in December 2011 and I've never regretted it. I joined to learn more about stamping but I got so much more than that! The friendship, personal support, encouragement – both personal and creative – have been an added bonus that I am very thankful for and appreciate very much! When my dad passed away, the people of SN were there for me. When my Mom had a stroke, the people of SN were there for me, again. They also sent cards of encouragement to my Mom – that meant so much to me – that people I've never met would take the time to send a hand made card to my Mom.
How do you get inspired when your mojo is lacking? When my mojo is lacking I usually make a big cuppa chai and look for a challenge or two to play along with. Also, I'll look through the SN gallery and check out my favorite bloggers blogs. There's always inspiration on SN!
Thank you Susan for sharing a little bit about yourself with us!
